Wharf Street area schools
« on: 21:49:01, 22/05/15 »
I am trying to find the name of the school just off Wharf Street I believe it was a church school.
My wife's first posting as a newly fledged teacher was to this school in 1952, at that time it was a very poor and rough area but she was loved and respected by pupils and parents alike. The experience at this school stood her in good stead throughout her career.
Her name was Rosemary Nicholson and has this week died at the age of 84.  I am trying to trace her career.
I am her husband John Barnes.

It was probably Taylor Street School which stood next to St Matthews Church.  The old school was demolished in 2009 (I think ) and a new one built. If you go on website Taylor Street School, Leicester, there is quite a lot of info.

My mother was the first pupil inside Taylor Street. She has a few pictures of the place.
