When were the cooling towers demolished?
« on: 08:51:52, 23/08/08 »
Hello!

I've been trying to find this online, but even AQA (http://www.issuebits.com/) couldn't help.

Does anyone know the date when the cooling towers on Raw Dyes Road were demolished? I remember going along to see it, but I was really young (4 or 5, I think) and although I can remember it was autumnal and misty, I don't recall the date.

Why do I want to know? Nothing earth shattering, but I'm writing a book of short stories, and wanted to base one around that event. As it's something that actually happened, I'd like to be accurate.

Many thanks to anyone who can help!

I watched them being built around 1949 I would think, from Hazel  street school.  A chap fell from the very top and lived.  Devaney or something like that I think his name was.
